WHAT's GOING ON (at the end of 2016)

A year ago, we found out KJRW was losing its home on Live365.  We made the move to Radionomy in February.  It gave us more space for more songs and slightly better sound quality.  It allowed more people to listen to the station at the same time for free.  And you listened longer than ever!  However, it made it more difficult for you to give us feedback and rate the songs, so there is no Top 116 of 2016 song list to post or play.

We are under the semi-constant threat of deletion from Radionomy.  There are listening hurdles we must jump every so often in order to stay online. We are at 57% of our current goal.

We hope to reach our listening goals to keep providing the most awesome alternative rock in the air from Punk to Grunge and beyond in 2017.  Under the Covers continues all winter long.  And we're working on something special for spring.

As long as you keep listening, KJRW will stay online.

WHAT'S GOING ON (as 2016 comes to a close)

You'll hear Punked up Xmas tunes all week long on KJRW, as we continue our stay Under the Covers this winter.

We are currently at about 60% of our listening goal for the month of December.  There are less than 2 weeks left of the month.  Please help us increase listening by New Year's!

WHAT'S GOING ON (At the Beginning of our 7th Year)

KJRW CELEBRATES 3 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
AS WE BEGIN OUR 7TH YEAR ONLINE

Keep KJRW online by listening.  Radionomy asks us for 40 more hours a day of listening in order for us to stay on.

A week into December, KJRW has gone undercover.  The Clash and Dead Kennedys both cover I Fought the Law.  A Perfect Circle covers John Lennon.  Cage the Elephant covers the Talking Heads.  Devo covers the Rolling Stones.  Foo Fighters cover Prince.  Green Day covers the Kinks.  Nirvana covers Bowie.  The Offspring cover the Ramones.  Rage Against the Machine covers Bob Dylan.  Red Hot Chili Peppers cover Stevie Wonder.  Smashing Pumpkins cover Fleetwood Mac.  Stone Temple Pilots cover Led Zeppelin.  All this and more, all winter long.  Get Under the Covers with KJRW.

And this Monday, KJRW declares war on Christmas!  Listen for punk rock holiday themed songs sprinkled into the mix through the 25th.

Saturday, November 26

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of November)

OH HELL NOvember!  A month ago, we weren't sure if KJRW would make it to November, but we did with your help. Hope you enjoyed the Great PUNKin tunes the last half of October.

The play button was hit over 8 thousand times in October!  Folks spent over 46 hundred hours listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Macedonia, Mexico, Uruguay, U.K., Netherlands, Singapore and Thailand.

Currently, we are 15% over Radionomy's listening requirements, but this is no time to relax. They may check in again on us next month, as we begin our 7th year online.

ALL Request FALL continues on KJRW.  Email your song requests now.

WHAT'S GOING ON (in the middle of October)

YOU DID IT!
KJRW lives to fight another day!

We never received a congratulatory letter from Radionomy, but we're still online.

Thanks for listening in the U.S., France, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Macedonia, Hungary, Poland, U.K., Spain, Thailand, Mexico, Estonia, Italy, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Singapore, Argentina, Israel and all over the globe.

And thanks to our friends at Birch Street Radio for their support and a possible Plan B.  Dan's the Man.  Please listen to them for all the stuff KJRW doesn't play.  True variety on Birch Street Radio.

Keep listening to KJRW as All Request Fall continues.  Radionomy may check on our hours again soon.

Spooky tunes will be haunting you this weekend through Halloween on KJRW!

Tuesday, October 4

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of October)

There are only a few days left until Radionomy decides the fate of KJRW.  And we're so close to fulfilling their listening time requirement.  Currently, we sit at 97%.  That is amazing, considering we only had 22% during the month of August. September was spectacular with 2,565 more listening hours than in the previous month.

KJRW listeners live on almost every continent.  Most are in the U.S., France, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Macedonia, Poland, U.K. and Spain.  You are all pulling together to keep KJRW online, and we love you for it.

The day of reckoning is the 8th.  Help us get that remaining 3% of listening time.

Friday, September 23

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the end of September)

KJRW celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Nirvana's breakthrough album, Nevermind.  Listen for tracks from the record that defined 90's Alternative all weekend long.

With just a week left in September, KJRW's fate is really coming down to the wire.  Listening time is higher than it has ever been in the station's history.  People have spent 43% more time with KJRW in September than in August.  However, if that does not increase another 35%, there will be radio silence.  Don't let this happen!  Listen!  And tell your friends to listen!

Thursday, September 15

WHAT'S GOING ON (in the middle of September)

All Request Fall is underway on KJRW.  You say it, we play it. Comment with a request or email it.

It is also that time of year we usually ask you to donate to our Go Fund Me page.  But we don't want your money this time.  This year we need something a little more precious in order to stay online -- your time.

If you want KJRW to stay online, you need to listen... a LOT.

Listening time has expanded 60% in just the last 2 weeks.  That's great.  But, we need it to be 43% higher in a few weeks than it is now or KJRW will be silenced.

So download the FREE Radionomy App for your phone or tablet,
or go to http://www.radionomy.com/en/radio/kjrw and spend some time with KJRW.

If just 55 more people spend one hour a day listening, we will meet our goal.

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of April)

KJRW has been on Radionomy for 2 months, and today we got the thumbs up from them to keep going for another 6.

During the first week of April, about 200 people checked out the station for almost 200 hours.  That's okay, but we can do better.  We'd like to see that number more than double in the next week.  Please spread the word that KJRW can now be heard on Radionomy.

We hope you enjoyed hearing the wacky novelty songs on April Fool's Day.  Here is something you may enjoy even more:  a chance to win one thousand dollars!  Listen to KJRW to find out how to qualify for the Grand Giveaway.

Thursday, March 31

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the end of March)

Over a thousand people checked out KJRW in March, and spent over a thousand hours listening.  We didn't quite reach the daily average listening time we were shooting for,  so please help us spread the word that KJRW is now on Radionomy.   People listened in the U.S., Canada, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Finland, Australia and the U.K. the most.
April Fool's Day tradition at KJRW is to play songs not usually heard on the station.  In the past, there has been everything from disco to rap.  Tune in to see what happens this year!

Thursday, March 17

KJRW GOES GREEN

Top o' the mornin' to ya!  KJRW has gone green for St. Patty's Day.  Tune in today to hear a Green Day song every hour.  According to our extremely scientific Twitter poll, your favorite is When I Come Around, so we'll be sure to be giving that a spin.

Speaking of Twitter, we've picked up more followers.  And it's not creepy at all.  The more the merrier!

Also, the more listening hours we have, the longer we stay online.  You can help by making sure you listen in every day and by sharing KJRW with your friends.

While the cabbage is boiling on the front burner, we have something cooking on the back burner for April Fool's Day that we think you're sure to enjoy...

Friday, March 4

WHAT'S GOING ON (in the beginning of March)

March has come in like a lion, with a bunch of technical difficulties from Radionomy.  Songs were repeated over and over and there was dead air for many hours.  It was as frustrating for us as it was to you, we are sure.  It seems that we are back on course now. (We hope!)

KJRW's first month on Radionomy went pretty well.  We uploaded close to 7 hundred songs by over a hundred  different artists.  Our audience grew steadily through February, as we lingered Under the Covers.  Close to a thousand streams were launched.  People spent almost 12 hundred hours listening in:

  1. U.S.A.
  2. Canada
  3. Sweden
  4. France
  5. Brazil
  6. U.K.
  7. Japan
  8. Mexico
  9. Italy
  10. Serbia

Help us reach our goal of adding 10 more hours of listening per day by the end of March.  Share the station on Facebook and Twitter.  Or do it the old fashioned way and talk to to a friend about KJRW.  If you enjoy it, they may also.

Listen for Green Day every hour on St. Patrick's Day!
And stay tuned to learn how you could win cold, hard cash from KJRW...

Tuesday, March 1

WHAT'S GOING ON?

The Radionomy website seems to be experiencing technical difficulties.
Please standby...

We will recap our first month on Radionomy soon.

Tuesday, February 16

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the middle of February)

The first couple of weeks on Radionomy has gone well for KJRW.
Hope you enjoyed the love songs over the weekend.  We're back Under the Covers now and for the rest of the month.
We've picked up more followers on Twitter and amassed new likes for the Facebook page.
Our audience has expanded from the U.S., Canada, Russia, Brazil and Mexico to France, Japan, U.K., Germany and Finland.
Over a thousand streams have been launched in the last couple weeks!  And we want more!  Please share KJRW with your friends.
We can now also be heard on TuneIn.

Monday, February 8

WHAT'S GOING ON (a week into February)

KJRW began its journey on Radionomy a week ago.  A couple hundred streams have been launched.  Listeners from around the world have tuned in.  Most notably in the U.S., Canada, Russia, Brazil and Mexico.  Some think the sound quality is better on Radionomy.   However,  it was  a bit glitchy over the weekend.  So we may have lost some listening hours due to that.

We still have a bit more space,  so we're uploading more songs.
Listen to "love" songs this Valentines Weekend on KJRW!

Monday, February 1

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of February)

Thursday, January 14

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the middle of January)

We're halfway through what may be the last month of KJRW on Live365.  The web site could pull the plug on all personal broadcasting on the 31st.  Their press release* is at the bottom of this post.

In the meantime, KJRW is working on building a new music library on Radionomy.  You can listen to this work in progress here:  http://listen.radionomy.com/kjrw.  There is a FREE App for Radionomy that is available for you to listen on your phone.

This is possibly also the last month of trivia at the Shadowland Pub Quiz.  Please catch what could be KJRW's final appearance at the corner of California and Oregon in West Seattle on Monday, January 25th.

Your favorite songs playing on KJRW right now are:

  1. Date Rape - Sublime
  2. When I Come Around - Honeyblood
  3. Ruby Soho - Rancid
  4. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
  5. Love Song - 311
  6. You Are My Sunshine - Screeching Weasel
  7. Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies
  8. Everybody Knows - Concrete Blonde
  9. My Sharona - Veruca Salt
  10. Clampdown - Clash

As you can see, more than half are cover songs on the list.  Get Under the Covers with KJRW on Live365 the rest of this month... and maybe next month on Radionomy!

*For 17 years, Live365 has offered small webcasters the opportunity to stream music and talk content, providing an alternative distribution channel for diverse, quality content on the Internet in a legally responsible way.

Recently, the Copyright Royalty Board, the governing entity for establishing the sound recording royalty rates that are paid to copyright holders, has published the new rates for 2016-20. The previous provisions for small webcasters to opt for a percentage of revenue model were not renewed. The current provisions end at the end of 2015. The absence of this license will make legally streaming copyrighted musical content prohibitively expensive for many small to mid-sized Internet broadcasters. Live365 relies on this license for many of their broadcast partners and, as such, has hard decisions to make regarding their future in the streaming industry.
Future of Music Coalition CEO Casey Rae made the following statement regarding the CRB ruling:
We are concerned, however, that there does not appear to be a distinction in rates for small commercial webcasters. Digital music benefits from diversity, and services with more modest operations often help developing talent and niche genres find audiences while contributing to the overall revenue pool. If there isn’t an option for new entrants to perform music from a broad range of artists, we may end up with a less diverse digital landscape.
Two weeks ago, Live365 faced an additional blow, losing the support of its investors who have helped the company with its mission for over a decade. The company was forced to significantly reduce staff and is now actively looking for partners to help continue the service into 2016. At this time, Live365 is planning to keep their stations active while getting the word out about this investment opportunity. With nearly two decades of Internet streaming experience and thousands of paying customers, this could be an ideal situation for a company looking to diversify into streaming audio.
CEO N. Mark Lam has begun initial discussions with possible business partners as the company looks to new options in the new year. Dean Kattari, Director of Broadcasting for Live365 said “The true value of Live365 lies in it’s diversity of content – it’s a sanctuary where you can hear music and other content that it so unlike the template broadcasting that is heard on most terrestrial radio. These stations are the hard work of real human beings who use Live365 to share their vision with the world. It’s a home for musical discovery because many of these stations play emerging artists that terrestrial stations are reluctant to take a chance on. It would be a great loss for this to all go away.”

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of 2016)

Happy New Year!  We've got good news and bad news.  The bad news is that our home online for the past 5 years may be shutting its doors at the end of this month.  Yes, that's right, KJRW may be homeless very soon.  We are looking for a new place to dwell.  If you have any suggestions on which streaming service we should be on, please let us know.

The good news is that 2015 was a very good year for KJRW.  The station page was visited over twenty thousand times.  More streams were launched than ever, and people spent the most time listening to KJRW since the station was created.

December saw the most page visits in 2 1/2 years, and the most time spent listening since last Spring.  People were listening in:  the U.S., Czech Republic, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, Switzerland, France, Columbia, Italy, Australia, Spain, the Republic of Korea, Finland, Russia, Japan, Germany, Belarus, Argentina, the U.K., the Philippines, Serbia, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Belgium.

KJRW would like to thank the people in the great states of Washington, Texas, Kentucky, California, Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Jersey, Idaho, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri, Oregon, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Arizona, West Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi and Indiana for listening.  And we don't forget the "other" Washington in the District of Columbia.

Your current favorite songs on KJRW are:

  1. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
  2. Love Song - 311
  3. Date Rape - Sublime
  4. Ruby Soho - Rancid
  5. When I Come Around - Honeyblood
  6. You Are My Sunshine - Screeching Weasel
  7. Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies
  8. Ghost Town - Specials
  9. Clampdown - Clash
  10. All I Want - Offspring

Get Under the Covers with KJRW on Live365 the rest of this month!
