WHAT'S GOING ON (at the end of September)

Listening time increased another 10% last week!  That's great but, it will have to increase another 40% this week, or Radionomy will eliminate KJRW from its web site.  So this is it.  This could very well be the last week of KJRW.

No score and seven years ago, KJRW began as an idea - a radio station that played songs that you don't hear on most radio stations.  We wanted it to be dynamic, unpredictable, and fun.  So seven years ago, we began building a library of hundreds of songs from the Punk era, and the music that evolved from it - New Wave, Alternative, and Grunge.  Don found a web site that would host our station for a small fee.  And in December of 2010, KJRW was launched online with the Presidents of the U.S.A.'s cover of Kick Out the Jams.

KJRW was our Field of Dreams.  We built it and thought they would come to listen.  A lot of you did.  KJRW has been heard in almost every continent on the globe.  Thank you for listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Poland, Netherlands, U.K., Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Ireland, Austria, U.A.E., Australia, China, Norway, Hungary, Israel, Ecuador, Peru, Belgium, Sweden, Hong Kong, Guatemala, Mexico, Czech Republic, Thailand, Portugal, French Polynesia, Kazakhstan, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, Estonia, Slovenia, Belarus, and Latvia.  We thank you all in the U.S. for spending time with KJRW:  Washington, Wisconsin, Washington D.C., Illinois, Virginia, Ohio, Alabama, New York, New Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota, Connecticut, California, Massachusetts, Florida, Tennessee, Indiana, North Dakota, Idaho, Texas, Maine, Kentucky, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Arizona, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Colorado, and Missouri.

We also thank all the voices of KJRW:  Matt, Anne, Richard, Allyssa, Madison, Travis, and Anna.  Thanks to the indie bands and fans for sending us songs.  Thanks to Angie, Barry, Mike, Kelly, Luis, Rikki, Selene, and Elizabeth for your music and station i.d.'s.

Thanks for listening, following and sharing the past 7 years.
Until we meet again,
The Spinster 🖤

WHAT'S GOING ON (in the middle of our last month)

Listening time increased 9% in the past week!

In order for KJRW to stay online after this month, listening time needs to double in the next 2 weeks. So, listen as much as you can, and tell your friends to check us out.

Keep those song suggestions coming for All Request Fall.

Thanks to all of you who sported the shirt over the years!  Get yours at the KJRW Corner Store!

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the Beginning of September)

New Wave Summer has given way to All Request Fall on KJRW.  There are several ways you can request a song:  email kjrwwestseattle@yahoo.comtweet it to @KJRWwestseattle, comment on this blog post, or send a message on our Facebook page.

Alas, All Request Fall and KJRW itself may come to an abrupt end on October 1st.  Our web host, Radionomy sent us an email stating that the station will be deleted if we do not meet their listening time requirements by the end of this month.

We need a 60% increase in listening time or KJRW will end its 7-year run online.

Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Switzerland, Spain, Ecuador, Netherlands, and the U.K.  If you keep listening, we just might stay online.

Saturday, August 26

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the end of August)

Monday is the last Monday of the month, which means it's trivia time!  KJRW provides one last music category (Family Values) at the Shadowland Pub Quiz.  Come out and play the final KJRW crafted audio round Monday night at 8, where Oregon meets California in West Seattle.

Some of you took the challenge to listen to KJRW for ONE hour.  Consequently, listening time increased 15% in the past couple of weeks.  Hooray!

A little background on measuring listening:  Before the time of internet radio, TSL (Time Spent Listening) was measured by AQH (Average Quarter Hour).  If you listened to a station from 9:01 to 9:14 (13 minutes), the station would receive a rating based on 1 quarter hour.  If you listened to that station from 9:09 to 9:18 (9 minutes), the station would receive a rating based on 2 quarter hours.  You listened for a longer amount of time in the first case, but the station got a higher rating in the second case. This is why you never used to hear commercials at :15, :30, and :45 past the hour.

With Internet radio, specifically Radionomy (our web host) listening time is measured by the hour.  It doesn't matter when you hit that play button, you have to stick around for at least an hour in order for your time to count.  If you listen for 55 minutes, it's as if you didn't listen at all.  It's not measured.

We appreciate whatever amount of time you spend with KJRW, but it only counts to Radionomy if you spend at least an hour at a time.

You have about a week left to listen to your new wave faves during New Wave Summer on KJRW.

All Request Fall begins September 5th!

Monday, August 14

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the Middle of August)

Over 1500 people listened to KJRW the first half of August.  Most of that was during the first week.  Just 3 weeks left of the LAST New Wave Summer ever.  Catch it while you can.

All Request Fall begins after Labor Day Weekend.  There are several ways you can request a song  during the month of September:  email kjrwwestseattle@yahoo.com, tweet it to @KJRWwestseattle, comment on this blog post, or send a message on our Facebook page.

Monday, July 31

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the End of July)

It's the last Monday of the month. That means KJRW provides the music round of the Shadowland Pub Quiz! Come Out and Play at the corner of California and Oregon in West Seattle at 8 p.m. Celebrate the last month of New Wave Summer by naming that New Wave tune in the audio round.

Yep, there's just one month left of New Wave Summer.  Get the T-shirt before it leaves the KJRW Corner Store.

And there are only two months left in our contract with Radionomy.  We're going to need a huge increase in listening to stay online past September.  So listen early and often!

Folks in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Poland, U.A.E., China, Italy, U.K., Greece, and Israel spent the most time with the station during the past month.

If everyone that checked out the station during the month of July had stuck around for at least an hour, KJRW's listening time would be at 100%.

Would you do that?  Spend just one hour a day with KJRW?

Friday, July 14

WHAT's GOING ON (In the Middle of July)

KJRW is halfway through New Wave Summer.  We added a dozen more songs to our Punk and New Wave categories in the past couple of weeks.

Listening is currently at about 60%.  We have 2 1/2 months to get to 100%.  Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Poland, and Spain!

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the end of June)

About a month into New Wave Summer, listening has dipped to 62%.  Remember you can take KJRW with you wherever you go.  The Radionomy app is FREE.  Commercial interruptions are minimal.  We're here to fulfill your Punk and Alternative needs 24-7.

Thanks for spending over 24 hundred hours during the month of June with KJRW in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, U.K., and Austria.

New Wave Summer rolls on....

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the Middle of June)

New Wave Summer has begun on KJRW!  The Psychedelic Furs are playing as I type this note.  We're just a couple of weeks into June, but it is already shaping up to be a good month for the station.  People have spent almost 3 thousand hours listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, and Greece.  Listening time is currently at 72%!  We may just make it to 100% by September...

Monday, May 29

WHAT'S GOING ON (At the End of May)

As May draws to a close, we are glad we scheduled Soundgarden to be the final Artist of the Day.  KJRW was saddened to learn of the loss of Chris Cornell on the 18th after a show in Detroit.  He had one of the strongest voices in rock.  May he be at peace.

KJRW has featured a different artist every day in May.  Over a thousand people heard them all.  Thanks for checking us out in the U.S., Germany, Canada, Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Norway, Austria, Greece, U.K., Slovenia, Portugal, and Thailand.  Listening time rose to 45%.  We have 4 months to get to 100%.

NEW WAVE SUMMER begins later this week.  Listen for Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Cure, New Order, Devo, Talking Heads, The Police, Blondie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Tears for Fears, The B-52's, Psychedelic Furs, The Human League, The Smiths and more all summer long.

All your favorite Alternative and Punk Rock songs will be on, too.

So, catch the wave -- it'll be gnarly and totally tubular, dude!

Monday, May 1

WHAT'S GOING ON (At the beginning of May)

KJRW will feature a different artist every day this month!

A reason to listen every day in May.

Time spent listening in April fell to 28%.  Our hope was to achieve at least 57% to be on pace to reach 100% in 5 months.  People did spend over 11 hundred hours with KJRW in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Poland, Austria, and Italy.

It's still cold, cloudy, and rainy in Seattle, but New Wave Summer is right around the corner...

Speaking of corners, be sure to visit the KJRW Corner Store for stuff with the  Little Lex Logo!

Monday, April 17

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the middle of April)

We enjoyed Pearl Jam Day so much at KJRW, that we have decided to feature a different artist every day in May!  Each day in May, one of our favorite bands will be showcased.  Get the May Artist of the Day Greeting Card at the KJRW Corner Store to follow along.

Unfortunately, listening time has declined quite a bit this past week or so.  We are currently at 30%.  It would be great if we could double that by the end of April to get back on track.

Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, France, Canada, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland!

PJ DAY

KJRW celebrates Pearl Jam's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times wrote:  "To some who know Pearl Jam the best, that ability to survive in and emerge from a turbulent and precedent-setting scene, and continue to thrive almost three decades later, might be its greatest achievement as the band prepares this week to receive one of its greatest honors — induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."

So put on your PJs and listen to Pearl Jam all day long on KJRW!

Saturday, April 1

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of April)

We have not received the official word from Radionomy, but it looks like we have enough listening hours to stay online in April.  You checked us out over 16 hundred times in March, and spent over 19 hundred hours with KJRW.  That means we are about halfway to reaching our ultimate goal.  Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.

Something funny is going on all day today on KJRW.  Listen for songs you will only hear on April 1st.

On April 7th, KJRW celebrates the induction of Pearl Jam into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Pearl Jam songs every hour next Friday.

Monday, March 20

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the Middle of March)

Happy Spring!  Almost 3 weeks into March, listening has gone up 26%.  That brings us almost halfway to our ultimate goal.  Thanks for spending time with KJRW in the U.S., Germany, France, and Canada!

We invite you to share some laughs with us on April Fool's Day, when we'll sprinkle some novelty songs into the mix.  It's no joke - if you don't listen in March, KJRW won't be online in April.  Radionomy checks in on us at the end of the month.

KJRW celebrates Pearl Jam's induction into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame on April 7th by playing Pearl Jam every hour.  From the Rock Hall:  "The 32nd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will take place on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the third time....Propelled by the hits “Alive” and “Jeremy” (about a high school student’s suicide), Ten sold over 13 million copies in America, launching a singular career of enduring commercial success (ten Top Five studio albums, half of them Number Ones) and staunch idealism. In the mid-Nineties, Pearl Jam challenged monopolistic practices in the concert-ticket industry; in 2000, they took the live-tape-sharing aesthetic to a new fan-friendly extreme, initiating a series of soundboard-quality live releases from every show – a now-common practice among bands big and new. Pearl Jam have also collaborated extensively – as a group and individuals, on stage and records – with a long list of inspirations including Neil Young, the Who and the Ramones. Twenty-five years after Ten, Pearl Jam are still one of the most reliably explosive, vigorously committed and truly modern rock bands in the world.

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the Beginning of March)

One week into March, listening has increased 8%.  Let's keep it going!  If we stay at this pace, Radionomy will keep KJRW online at the end of the month.

Those rascals at Radionomy have mislabeled a Ramones song in our playlist.  The first listener that discovers this mistake and emails us at kjrwwestseattle@yahoo.com with the correct title and what it was changed to will win a crisp one hundred dollar bill!

KJRW goes green this St. Patrick's Day, playing a Green Day song every hour!  Listen for all the hits, deeper cuts, mashups, and covers from Green Day on the 17th.

Tuesday, February 28

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the End of February)

We're sad to report listening dropped to 21% of our goal during February.  There needs to be a huge increase in March because Radionomy will be checking in on us at the end of the month.

People spent the most time with KJRW in the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, and Mexico.

This Spring, KJRW is gonna get out from Under the Covers and Tighten Up.  KJRW Goes Green on March 17th, with songs from Green Day every hour.

And if we get enough listening hours in March, not only will we get to stay online for another six months, but we will be given the space to add a bunch more songs.

Friday, February 17

WHAT'S GOING ON (At the Beginning of February)

Hello and welcome to February!  It's been a month since our forced "relaunch" of KJRW on Radionomy.  We are happy to announce that we met our listening goal for January.  Folks spent time with the station in the U.S., Germany, France, Canada, U.K., Poland, Spain, Hungary, Australia, and Mexico.  KJRW was heard in 37 of the 50 United States.

It's a new month with a new listening goal.  We are currently at 40% of our ultimate goal.  Our personal goal is to get halfway there by the end of February.  All you have to do is listen.  No subscription necessary.  It doesn't cost you a dime.

Spring is just around the corner.  What would you like to hear on KJRW?

Listen for LOVE songs on the 14th!

People in the U.S., Germany, France, Canada, U.K., Poland, Spain, Hungary, Australia, Czech Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Italy, Peru, and Israel are getting Under the Covers with KJRW.

Listening time is slowly creeping back up.  We are currently at 25% of where we need to be in 8 months, in order to not get deleted again.

Please continue to enjoy all the cover songs this winter on KJRW.  It's what we need to keep us warm.

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of 2017)

Hello and welcome to 2017.  Kinda funny how we just wrote last week about the semi-constant threat of deletion from Radionomy.  They did just that 5 hours into the new year.

Thanks to Dan the Man at Birch Street Radio, we had a Plan B.  When we thought Radionomy might remove KJRW in October, Dan suggested we copy our audio.

KJRW - West Seattle is back on as of tonight!

And KJRW provides the musical picture round at the Shadowland Pub Quiz Monday night!
