SUMMERTIME ROLLS
Summer is here and the time is right for NEW WAVE SUMMER. We are about 12 hours away from launching New Wave Summer on KJRW as we sit here typing this. By the time you read this, it may have already begun. You will hear Joy Division, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Tears for Fears, and many other New Wave bands all summer long on KJRW.
New wave is a genre of rock music popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s with ties to mid-1970s punk rock. New wave moved away from blues and rock and roll sounds to create rock music (early new wave) or pop music (later) that incorporated disco, mod, and electronic music. - Wikipedia
Taking its name from the French New Wave cinema of the late 1950s, this catchall classification was defined in opposition to punk (which was generally more raw, rough edged, and political) and to mainstream “corporate” rock (which many new wave upstarts considered complacent and creatively stagnant). - Britannica
During the late '70s and early '80s, New Wave was a catch-all term for the music that directly followed punk rock; often, the term encompassed punk itself, as well. - AllMusic
No matter your definition, get ready for a fun summer with KJRW.
Listening time is up 20% in June. That places us at 75% of our goal to stay online at the end of October. Thanks for listening to KJRW!

JUNE HYMN
Almost 400 of you clicked the play button on KJRW over 800 times and listened for over 2 thousand hours during the month of May. That puts us over halfway to our ultimate listening goal we need to reach by the end of October to stay online. Listening time increased 17% from April to May.
Sadly, that percentage dropped in the past week by 8% due to technical difficulties with Radionomy. Several of their streams have only played sporadically since the Friday before Memorial Weekend, including ours. There has been no reply to our inquiry for a solution. We're back on today.
New Wave Summer begins in a couple of weeks. KJRW will showcase artists such as: Joy Division, Duran Duran, Blondie, Devo, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, and more all summer long.
As always, we take your requests at kjrwwestseattle@yahoo.com or on our Facebook Page. You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, Austria, U.K., Ecuador, Morocco, and Thailand.

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the Beginning of September)
New Wave Summer has given way to All Request Fall on KJRW. There are several ways you can request a song: email kjrwwestseattle@yahoo.com, tweet it to @KJRWwestseattle, comment on this blog post, or send a message on our Facebook page.
Alas, All Request Fall and KJRW itself may come to an abrupt end on October 1st. Our web host, Radionomy sent us an email stating that the station will be deleted if we do not meet their listening time requirements by the end of this month.
We need a 60% increase in listening time or KJRW will end its 7-year run online.
Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Switzerland, Spain, Ecuador, Netherlands, and the U.K. If you keep listening, we just might stay online.

WHAT'S GOING ON (at the end of August)
Monday is the last Monday of the month, which means it's trivia time! KJRW provides one last music category (Family Values) at the Shadowland Pub Quiz. Come out and play the final KJRW crafted audio round Monday night at 8, where Oregon meets California in West Seattle.
Some of you took the challenge to listen to KJRW for ONE hour. Consequently, listening time increased 15% in the past couple of weeks. Hooray!
A little background on measuring listening: Before the time of internet radio, TSL (Time Spent Listening) was measured by AQH (Average Quarter Hour). If you listened to a station from 9:01 to 9:14 (13 minutes), the station would receive a rating based on 1 quarter hour. If you listened to that station from 9:09 to 9:18 (9 minutes), the station would receive a rating based on 2 quarter hours. You listened for a longer amount of time in the first case, but the station got a higher rating in the second case. This is why you never used to hear commercials at :15, :30, and :45 past the hour.
With Internet radio, specifically Radionomy (our web host) listening time is measured by the hour. It doesn't matter when you hit that play button, you have to stick around for at least an hour in order for your time to count. If you listen for 55 minutes, it's as if you didn't listen at all. It's not measured.
We appreciate whatever amount of time you spend with KJRW, but it only counts to Radionomy if you spend at least an hour at a time.
You have about a week left to listen to your new wave faves during New Wave Summer on KJRW.
All Request Fall begins September 5th!
