We have not received the official word from Radionomy, but it looks like we have enough listening hours to stay online in April.  You checked us out over 16 hundred times in March, and spent over 19 hundred hours with KJRW.  That means we are about halfway to reaching our ultimate goal.  Thanks for listening in the U.S., Germany, Canada, France, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.

Something funny is going on all day today on KJRW.  Listen for songs you will only hear on April 1st.

On April 7th, KJRW celebrates the induction of Pearl Jam into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Pearl Jam songs every hour next Friday.

WHAT'S GOING ON (In the Middle of March)

Happy Spring!  Almost 3 weeks into March, listening has gone up 26%.  That brings us almost halfway to our ultimate goal.  Thanks for spending time with KJRW in the U.S., Germany, France, and Canada!

KJRW celebrates Pearl Jam's induction into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame on April 7th by playing Pearl Jam every hour.  From the Rock Hall:  "The 32nd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will take place on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the third time....Propelled by the hits “Alive” and “Jeremy” (about a high school student’s suicide), Ten sold over 13 million copies in America, launching a singular career of enduring commercial success (ten Top Five studio albums, half of them Number Ones) and staunch idealism. In the mid-Nineties, Pearl Jam challenged monopolistic practices in the concert-ticket industry; in 2000, they took the live-tape-sharing aesthetic to a new fan-friendly extreme, initiating a series of soundboard-quality live releases from every show – a now-common practice among bands big and new. Pearl Jam have also collaborated extensively – as a group and individuals, on stage and records – with a long list of inspirations including Neil Young, the Who and the Ramones. WHAT'S GOING ON (at the beginning of May)

KJRW celebrated the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in April. More streams were launched than in March and February. There were the most visits to the station page since last June.
However, people spent slightly less time listening, so our rank dropped a bit. They were listening to KJRW the most in the U.S., Belarus, Spain, Canada, Hungary, New Zealand, Italy, Venezuela, Slovak Republic and Germany. Tops in listening inside the U.S. were:  Seattle, WA; San Francisco, CA; Philadelphia, PA; Denver, CO; New York and Albany, NY; El Paso, TX; Chicago, IL; Grand Rapids, MI and Atlanta, GA.

WHAT'S GOING ON (in the middle of April)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction is this weekend.  KJRW is celebrating members all month long.  Listen for Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground.  The Velvets joined a few years back, and this year it's Lou's turn as a solo artist.  You will also hear David Bowie, The Ramones, Talking Heads, The Police, The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, U2, Sex Pistols, Blondie, Patti Smith, R.E.M., The Stooges, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana. On top of that are a couple more artists entering the hall this weekend:  Green Day and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

April Fool's Day didn't drive folks away, even though it consisted mostly of 80's and 90's pop music. In fact, that day saw the most visits to the station page so far this month.

In April, KJRW celebrates the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. This year's inductees include Lou Reed, Green Day and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.  We will also highlight members such as Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie and more.

BLOW OUT

Friday night, the EMP museum had a Blow Out concert to kick off their Women Who Rock Exhibit.  Local acts, such as Capping Day were show openers.

The headliners were the Bad EMPressions:  Kathy Valentine (Go-Go's) on guitar, Patty Schemel (Hole) on drums, Dominique Davalos (BlueBonnets) on bass and Shae Padilla (KSM) on lead guitar.  Valentine and Davalos play together in the Austin, TX band BlueBonnets, and were the first to take lead singer duties.  From then on, that position went from local Shelby Earl to Annabella Lwin (Bow Wow Wow) to local Star Anna to Kim Shattuck (The Muffs) to local Choklate and finally to Donita Sparks (L7).  Song highlights included:  Vacation, Brass in Pocket, I Want Candy, Saints, and Rehab.  The finale of Bad Reputation was a bit of a disappointment because they hadn't worked out who would sing each verse.  But on the whole, the show was a lot of fun.  Most of the performers even joined the crowd to shake hands and take pictures.


The Women Who Rock Exhibit comes to EMP via the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.  The image of Joan Jett greets you at the entrance.  It is followed by a timeline of special achievements by women in history.  Following that are artifacts from female singers and musicians of the 20th century.  We are taken on a trip through time beginning with early blues singers.  Of course, our favorite part began in the late-70's with the emergence of punk rock.  And we appreciated the inclusion of Bikini Kill to represent the Riot Grrrl movement.  However once again, we find disco queens and pop stars included under the moniker of Rock.  Madonna and Lady Gaga are icons, but they do not rock.  Where were the Go-Go's, Hole, L7, Bratmobile, Babes in Toyland, Sleater-Kinney, etc.?  Even with those conspicuous absences, it is a very interesting exhibit.  If you find yourself near Seattle Center, you should take a look.
